Advertise Your Products in ChatGPT, Enriched by Agenticfeed
OpenAI's Ads Manager takes a product catalogue and builds shoppable ad units from it. The ad copy comes straight out of your feed, which means the quality of that file decides the quality of the advertising. Agenticfeed now generates it for you, enriched with everything we know about what your products are actually for.
What Changed
There is a new block in the Feeds section of your dashboard called Advertise your products in ChatGPT. It gives you a single download: the CSV that OpenAI's Ads Manager ingests, built from your live catalogue, in their format, ready to upload.
Two switches sit above it. Eligible for ads marks your products as available for OpenAI to advertise. Buyable via ACP Instant Checkout declares that you are wired into OpenAI's delegated payments, and should stay off until you are. Change either, press Save and regenerate CSV, and the next download reflects it.
Why the Description Field Decides Everything
OpenAI's ads feed asks for nine required fields: item_id, title, description, url, brand, seller_name, image_url, availability and price. Eight of those you already have. The ninth is where the advertising is won or lost.
Here is the problem, measured on a real catalogue. Across one merchant's in-stock products, 93% had a description under 80 characters. Most were the product title typed twice. One product's entire description was:
Pink meeple
Eleven characters. That is what would have been uploaded to OpenAI, and that is all the model would have had to work with when deciding whether this product answers a shopper's question. Meanwhile the same product had 55 questions, 80 problems and 80 use cases sitting in Agenticfeed, generated and answered, and none of it was reaching the ad.
It does now. Agenticfeed composes the description from that intent data, ordered the way an agent actually matches a stated need: what the product is, what it is ideal for, the problems it solves, then the questions buyers ask before committing.
Pink meeple. Category: Carcassonne. Ideal for: expanding game capacity when playing with more players than intended; using as tokens or markers for strategy games; replacing missing pieces in classic board games. Problems it solves: Limited options for themed tabletop gaming setups. Common questions. Are pink meeples compatible with standard board game sizes? Yes, meeples are standardised components that fit standard tiles and boards across most modern games.
Median description length across that catalogue went from almost nothing to roughly 1,200 characters, and no product is left under 80.
Deliberately Not Five Thousand Characters
OpenAI allows up to 5,000 characters. We use about 1,400, and that restraint is the point.
The specification asks for plain, factual text, and ad copy goes through policy review. Eighty concatenated question-and-answer pairs would technically fit and would read exactly like keyword stuffing. So the composer picks a handful of the strongest use cases, problems and questions, drops near-duplicates, and stops. If you have written a real product description yourself, that leads and the intent data supports it, because good copy should never be thrown away by a machine.
What Else Is in the File
- Every required field, populated. Plus
product_category, which most catalogues have and most feeds discard. - In-stock products only. An agent that recommends something unavailable damages its own credibility, and learns to stop trusting the source that embarrassed it.
- Attribution built in. Product URLs carry
utm_source=agenticfeedwithutm_medium=chatgpt-ads, so paid clicks from ChatGPT are separable from organic agent traffic in your analytics. - Generated fresh, every time. The file is never cached and is named with a UTC timestamp, so the version you upload always matches your current prices, stock and settings.
One Thing We Cannot Do for You
OpenAI ingests ads feeds over SFTP, using credentials issued per advertiser account. No third party can push on your behalf, us included. So the flow is: download the file from your dashboard, then upload it to your own ChatGPT Ads Manager account, where you create the feed, configure SFTP access and transfer the CSV. The dashboard walks through each step.
After the first upload, price and availability changes can go through OpenAI's Delta API rather than a full re-upload. New products, or changes to images and descriptions, need the file again.
Worth knowing before you start: OpenAI applies a minimum catalogue size for product feed ads, reported as 100 products, and reviews advertiser accounts before ads run.
How This Differs From a Google Shopping Feed
A Google Merchant Center feed is a fine thing and it is not this. It is a different format, delivered a different way, and critically it carries your original product descriptions, which is precisely the field that decides whether an AI names your product. Pushing a Shopping feed into ChatGPT Ads gets you present. It does not get you chosen.
The gap Agenticfeed closes is the enrichment: turning a catalogue written for people who are already browsing your site into one that answers the question a shopper asked an AI.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the ChatGPT Ads feed need that a Google Shopping feed does not?
The same core product data in OpenAI's own CSV shape, plus an is_ads_eligible flag on each row marking which products you want advertised. The nine required fields are item_id, title, description, url, brand, seller_name, image_url, availability and price. The difference that matters in practice is the description, because that is the field the model reads when deciding whether your product answers the shopper's question.
Can Agenticfeed upload the feed to OpenAI for me?
No, and no other tool can either. OpenAI ingests ads feeds over SFTP using credentials issued per advertiser account, so the upload has to come from the account holder. Agenticfeed generates the correctly formatted file and gives you the upload steps; you push it from your own ChatGPT Ads Manager account.
How do I turn it on?
Open the Feeds section of your dashboard, tick Eligible for ads, save, and download the CSV. The file is generated fresh on every download and named with a timestamp, so the version you upload always reflects your current settings, prices and stock.
The Takeaway
Ads in ChatGPT are only as good as the catalogue behind them, and most catalogues were written for a shopper who has already found you. The eleven-character description is not an unusual case, it is the normal case, and it is invisible until the moment an AI has to decide between your product and someone else's.
The file is in the Feeds section of your dashboard now. If you are not yet using Agenticfeed, start here: the same intent data powers your organic ChatGPT feed, your Google Merchant Center feed and your MCP connector.
