How Agenticfeed Keeps Search Engines Fresh with IndexNow
Your product catalogue changes daily: new items arrive, prices shift, stock runs out. But search engines and AI agents don't know about these changes until they crawl your feed again, which can take days or weeks. Agenticfeed solves this with IndexNow, a protocol that instantly notifies search engines when your feed has been updated.
The Problem: Staleness
Traditional web crawling works by visiting pages on a schedule. Google's crawler might check your site every few weeks. Bing's crawler might visit less frequently. Meanwhile, your product data is changing constantly.
For AI agents querying your product catalogue, this staleness is a real problem. If an agent discovers your feed on Monday but the feed isn't crawled again until Friday, the agent is making recommendations based on four-day-old data. Products might be out of stock. Prices might have changed. New items might be available.
The web needed a faster way to signal that content had changed. That's where IndexNow comes in.
What Is IndexNow?
IndexNow is an open protocol created by Microsoft that lets website owners instantly notify search engines when URLs have been updated. Instead of waiting for crawlers to discover changes, you push a notification saying "these URLs have changed, please crawl them now."
It's supported by:
- Bing: crawls notified URLs within minutes
- Yandex: Russian search engine, also uses IndexNow
- Google: doesn't use IndexNow, but respects the same signals
- AI platforms: some AI crawlers also monitor IndexNow feeds
The protocol is simple: send a POST request to https://www.bing.com/indexnow with a list of URLs that changed, plus your site's API key for verification.
How Agenticfeed Uses IndexNow
Agenticfeed automatically sends IndexNow notifications every time a merchant's feed is updated. Here's the flow:
- Daily import runs: Every day at 2 AM, Agenticfeed checks each merchant's product source (Shopify, Google Merchant Center, or direct feed URL) for updates.
- Products sync: Stock levels, prices, and availability are refreshed. New products are added. Discontinued items are marked unavailable.
- Intent data generated: Questions, problems, and use cases are created or updated for each product using AI analysis.
-
IndexNow notification sent: If anything changed, Agenticfeed immediately notifies Bing and other search engines:

- Crawlers respond: Within minutes, Bing's crawler fetches the updated feeds. AI agents that monitor IndexNow also see the notification and can re-fetch the data.
The result: product data stays fresh without merchants having to lift a finger.
Why This Matters for AI Shopping
AI shopping agents like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are already recommending products to millions of users. When they query a merchant's catalogue, they rely on the most recent data. Stale data leads to bad recommendations.
With IndexNow, Agenticfeed ensures that:
- Stock is always current: Agents won't recommend out-of-stock items
- Prices are accurate: No recommending products at old prices
- New products are discoverable: Fresh inventory shows up in recommendations
- Intent data is relevant: Questions and problems match what customers actually ask today
When an AI agent recommends your product, it's based on today's data, not last month's snapshot.
The Technical Details
For the technically curious, here's what happens under the hood:
IndexNow request payload:
{
"host": "agenticfeed.ai",
"key": "{api-key}",
"keyLocation": "https://agenticfeed.ai/{api-key}.txt",
"urlList": [
"https://agenticfeed.ai/feed/a9a8378c94.json",
"https://agenticfeed.ai/questions/a9a8378c94.json",
"https://agenticfeed.ai/problems/a9a8378c94.json",
"https://agenticfeed.ai/use_cases/a9a8378c94.json"
]
}
The API key is verified by checking the keyLocation URL: Bing fetches that URL and confirms it contains the same API key. This proves we own agenticfeed.ai.
Agenticfeed only sends notifications when changes actually occurred. If a daily import run finds no updates, no notification is sent, which keeps noise low and respects Bing's rate limits.
The Future of Feed Discovery
IndexNow is part of a larger trend toward real-time indexing. Search engines are moving away from waiting days or weeks to discover content updates. Instant notification is becoming the standard.
For merchants using Agenticfeed, this means:
- Product data updates propagate globally in minutes, not days
- AI agents always have current information for recommendations
- Competitive advantages (new products, price drops) are immediately visible
- Better SEO and visibility in search engines
As AI shopping becomes mainstream, freshness becomes a competitive advantage. Agenticfeed's automatic IndexNow integration gives merchants that edge without any extra work.
